I just had an incredible 24 hours. One of the best things about this job is how my live was lived over the past two nights.
Wednesday night, I stood and watched the Henningsens, Easton Corbin, Thompson Square, Jana Cramer and Gary Allan at the WSSL 100 Acoustic Jam. We knew that Sheryl Crow would be making a guest appearance and when she walked on, the reaction was just remarkable.
That night, I was told that something special was going to happen at the Blind Horse on Thursday night. "A major star is doing a free show" was all I was told. So it's Thursday morning and the buzz had already begun. Calls, emails, Facebook posts and Tweets all asking about the Thursday night "Suprise Show".
By 9:30, we learned that CMA Entertainer of the Year Blake Shelton was going to do a free show. WHAT???? WSSL 100 had to promise secrecy and wait for Blake to post his plans on his Facebook and Twitter pages.
And he did....and BOOM!!! Never in my 30 something years of doing this wonderful job, have I ever experienced something so pleasingly random. Blake Shelton PROVED his Entertainer of the Year status. Whoever thinks he's gone Hollywood and lost his passion for performing needed to see what we saw.
For over 3 hours he sang it all. His hits. Some old school classics by Conway, Jerry Reed, Garth and then several hits by his idol, George Strait. Hell, he outlasted at least half of the 19 hundred something fans who had decided to call it a night.
Why the Blind Horse Saloon? He's only doing a few of these and WSSL 100 and this place we call Whistleland holds a special place in his heart. He wanted to say thank you by doing what he loves. For the people who mean alot to him. That simple.
Here's a quick video glimpse. For more great pics of Blake, go to my photo gallery here
